Do I need more memory ?

If you want to have multiple applications e.g. e-mail, browsing and word processing, open at the same time then more memory will help the performance of your machine. You will have less crashes of your computer if you have more memory in it.

How much memory do I need ?

The more memory that you can put in the computer the better it will perform. To run today’s latest programs on an older computer will generally always require a memory upgrade. As a general rule aim for 128 Mb of computer memory as a minimum, with 256 as the ideal. If you are a heavy user of the computer for e.g. desktop publishing, CAD drawing etc. then aim for 512 Mb of RAM.
